Randolph Public Schools Band Instrument Usage Policy
The Randolph Band Program has many fine instruments for students to perform on. Each member of the band should share in the pride of ownership and understand that the use of these instruments is a privilege. Much thought and planning went into the purchase of these instruments so that our band program could excel at the highest level possible. The following represents general policies as it applies to the use of Randolph Band Equipment:
1. The Randolph Band Program will charge a $65.00 yearly fee for the use of Randolph Public Schools Band Instruments payable in one lump sum or $32.50 at the start of each semester. Students cannot play the instrument until the fee is paid. The following guidelines should be noted when renting a school owned instrument:
A. All members of the percussion section will be assessed this fee. This will provide funds for the
maintenance of all percussion instruments due to normal wear and tear. In addition this fee will
provide funds for the replacement of drum heads and mallets.
B. Band students who use a school instrument will be assessed this fee (to include:
Piccolo, Flute, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Baritone Sax, Trumpet, French Horn, Euphonium/Baritone, Trombone, Tuba, Electric Bass).
C. Your fee will be set aside in the repair budget to help with normal wear & tear and routine maintenance needed to keep the instrument working properly. (ie. worn pads, old corks, etc.)
D. Fee Waver – The band director reserves the right to waive this fee on a semester basis for those students willing to change instruments and help improve the overall instrumentation of the Randolph Band Program.
2. Students who use Randolph Band Instruments will be responsible for the cost of damages and repairs if it is determined that the damage is a result of carelessness and neglect. This includes students that were asked to switch to the school owned instrument. End of the year maintenance for normal wear and tear will be paid for by the Randolph School District.
3. All band members who are responsible for the payment of this fee will be given a contract outlining expectations of instrument usage, etc. Your fee should be paid at the time you return your signed contract. Students will not be able to play the instrument until the fee is paid.
